A single termite swarm usually lasts between 30 and 40 minutes. The swarmers – winged termites that leave the colony to start new ones – emerge in large numbers, fly a short distance, then land and shed their wings.
However, the swarming season can last for weeks or even months, depending on the species and weather conditions. You may see multiple swarms over that time, especially after rain or on warm, humid days.
If you're seeing swarmers inside your home, it's a strong sign that a colony may be nearby or already inside your structure. You can vacuum up the swarmers and discarded wings, but that won't address the colony.
Try to collect a few swarmers in a sealed bag or jar to help with identification, then call in the professionals. Our termite experts can inspect your property to find out whether the termites have established a colony, and recommend termite treatments if deemed necessary.
