Unfortunately, you probably won’t see a reduction in cockroaches during winter if you already have an active infestation nearby. You may even see an increase in activity: when temperatures drop, roaches (and many other pests) look for warmth, shelter, and food, which often leads them indoors.
When the temperature drops to a certain degree, many cockroaches enter a hibernation-like state of dormancy called diapause so they are less likely to thrive outdoors and in cooler areas. In this inactive state, their metabolic rate slows and growth stops. While freezing temperatures can kill roaches exposed to the elements for long periods, most find protection long before that happens.
If you’re seeing cockroaches in the winter, it’s a sign they’ve already found a way inside and may be breeding in hidden areas. To target the source of the problem, our technicians can inspect your home and help develop a cockroach treatment plan that keeps them from returning.
