Some wasps and hornets can recognize faces - at least to a certain extent. Research on paper wasps (a close relative of hornets) has shown they’re capable of recognizing and remembering individual faces within their colony, helping them keep social order. While this facial recognition ability isn’t quite like ours, it does show that these insects are smarter than we often think.
That said, it’s unlikely that hornets remember faces in a personal way or hold grudges. Their reactions are driven by instinct, not emotion. Hornets are defensive, and they’ll sting if they feel their nest is threatened, but they don’t seek out specific people.
If hornets are nesting near your home or in a place where people spend time, it’s best to stay cautious and contact our technicians for hornet removal.
