Will wasps return to an old nest?

Wasps almost never move back into an old nest. Each spring, a newly mated queen starts from scratch, building her own nest rather than settling into one left behind by last year's colony.

That doesn't mean the wasps are gone for good, though.

If the original spot offered good shelter and stayed undisturbed, a new queen might see it as prime real estate and build close by, sometimes in the same eave, wall void, or tree. So while that specific nest won't see any more activity, a fresh one nearby is entirely possible.
