Will wasps attack at night if you spray them?

“I've heard wasps are calmer at night. Is it safer to spray their nest after dark?”

It’s true that wasps are less active at night; they rely heavily on daylight to navigate and forage, so once the sun goes down, most of the colony settles inside the nest rather than flying around. That's part of why nighttime is often suggested as the quieter window to deal with a nest. 

Unfortunately, calmer isn't the same as harmless, though. Wasps can still sense vibrations and disturbances even in the dark, and a defensive response can kick in fast if the nest gets jostled or sprayed incorrectly. 

Poor visibility also makes it harder to judge the nest's size, location, and how much of it you've actually treated, which raises the odds of an incomplete job or an unexpected encounter with wasps that are still very capable of stinging.
