Host Montel Williams became the first black Marine selected to the Naval Academy Prep School to then go on to graduate from the United States Naval Academy. Montel is a passionate advocate for veterans, education and health and is thrilled to be a part of Military Makeover.
Chris Hixon bravely served in the United States Navy in the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield. Following his career in the military, Chris once again devoted his life to serving others as the athletic director and wrestling coach at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
On February 14, 2018, a gunman opened fire at Stoneman Douglas High School killing 17 people and injuring 17 others. Sadly, Chris lost his life that day attempting to disarm the shooter to save the lives of students. He is survived by his wife Debra and their two sons, Thomas, a Reserve Corps Marine Officer, and Corey.
“He loved being American and serving his country, and he instilled it in his students,” said his wife Debra Hixon. Chris Hixon, a 27-year veteran, received Military Funeral Honors before he was laid to rest at the South Florida VA National Cemetery.
Military Makeover will renovate the home this family has shared for 28 years, which is also the home where Debra grew up. Debra, the daughter of a Navy Veteran, has been a teacher for 30 years serving as a Magnet Coordinator at South Broward High School’s Marine Science Maritime Magnet Program.
For many homeowners, pest control is not something they think about every day. Preventative pest control offers many benefits and it’s important to choose the right professional to protect your home and family (including your pets) from pests.
To continue to support this deserving family, Ehrlich is donating lifetime pest control and termite services at the Hixon house for as long as Debra Hixon owns the home. The coverage includes Ehrlich's pestfree365 program, providing protection against more than 36 pests, as well as termite baiting and monitoring for continuous protection against termites.
Ehrlich has been trusted by homeowners for nearly a century to protect their home and family from pests. Our goal is to deliver the highest-quality service in the safest possible manner. We are honored to offer our services to the Hixon family.
