Bed bug treatment options

Our bed bug treatments range from conventional solutions to canine bed bug inspections to state-of-the-art heat treatments. Your Ehrlich specialist will review and recommend the best solution available to control your bed bug problem. Our bed bug treatment methods include:

Conventional bed bug treatment

Proactive product application remains our primary and most common approach for the removal of bed bugs. Several treatment formulations, including liquids, dusts, and aerosols are typically required for a thorough bed bug service due to the varying types of surfaces, materials, and circumstances encountered.

Bed bug conventional treatment usually begins at the focal point of the infestation which is, in most cases, the bed in an infested room. This will be followed by careful treatment of all items in the vicinity; including baseboards, floor and wall junctions, tack strips under carpets, behind electrical outlets and switches, cracks in the walls and floors, wall-mounted items and relevant structural voids. The intent is to treat every possible hiding place to ensure bed bugs - at all stages of their life cycle - are completely eliminated.

Bed bug fumigation

Bed bug fumigation is an option in a few select situations. Structural fumigation involves tenting your property and releasing fumigant gas to permeate every inch of the structure, including walls and under floors. The chemicals penetrate all items within the fumigation space and are able to kill all stages of bed bugs present during the exposure period.

During the bed bug fumigation treatment, all tenants, pets, and plants will need to be evacuated for several days. Please note that bed bug fumigation may not be available in all service areas. Contact us to inquire about availability.

Bed bug heat treatment

Heat treatment, a chemical-free control method, is widely regarded as one of the most effective solutions for bed bugs. Portable heaters, either electric or propane-fired, are used to gradually heat the ambient air within rooms to above 120ºF while the area is monitored by temperature sensors and infrared thermometers.  This high temperature is then held for one and a half to three hours, thoroughly eliminating bed bugs in a single treatment.

Heat treatment is environmentally friendly and a low-risk option for customers (and their pets) due to the minimal use of pesticides. The service can be completed in just one day rather than over the course of a few weeks, and it’s effective against all bed bug life stages. It minimizes disruption and replacement costs. Affected areas, furniture, and upholstery items can be used directly after the treatment with complete peace of mind.

Bed bug steam remediation

High temperatures are lethal to most insects provided they cannot quickly escape to a cooler location. The temperatures produced by portable steam units are more than sufficient to kill bed bugs and their eggs upon contact. Steam remediation allows us to treat all surfaces of mattresses, box springs, and upholstered furniture.

This chemical-free treatment effectively moves bed bugs out of cracks and crevices within furniture, making them more likely to expose themselves or cross any applied treatments.

Steam remediation may NOT be appropriate for treating all surfaces due to the moisture that is produced.

Bed bug mattress covers

Encasing your mattress in a high-quality bed bug mattress cover is a good preventative measure for keeping bed bugs out of your box spring and mattress. Mattress covers eliminate bed bug entry and exit points, remove potential hiding places, and stop them from feeding on you, your family, or your guests in the middle of the night.

The benefits of bed bug mattress covers include:

  • Helps to prevent re-infestations
  • Reduces the number of pest harborage (hiding) areas
  • Aids in the early detection of bed bugs
  • Cool and comfortable to sleep on while offering complete protection against allergens, dust mites, and bed bugs

Bed bug mattress and box spring encasements are amongst the most reliable and affordable solutions for preventing bed bug infestations. The covers make visual inspections and eliminating bed bugs from the surface a much more straightforward process.

Canine detection

At Ehrlich, we have a team of trained bed bug dogs to help us accurately detect the presence of bed bugs in your home or business. Bed bug dogs have been trained using the same methodology and training regimen as bomb-sniffing dogs, drug-sniffing dogs, mold-sniffing dogs, and termite-sniffing dogs.

Follow up service

We ensure that there is a follow-up with every customer. Our current standard practice is for at least two follow-up visits after the initial corrective service, to include inspection and treatment as needed.  We provide this service to ensure that we have effectively resolved your bed bug problem.

Businesses at high risk for bed bugs

You should consider a proactive approach to bed bug control if your business offers accommodation or provides transportation. These business environments are considered the main sources for harboring and spreading bed bugs:

With such a range of infestation sources, it is almost impossible to prevent bed bugs from entering your business. A bed bug problem can spread very quickly and, if left uncontrolled, can put your business in jeopardy of loss of revenue, reputation or even forced closure.
