About 1-1 5/8” long.
Black to rusty in color with yellowish markings.
Lifecycle
Full grown larvae overwinter in their burrow, pupate in the spring and emerge as adults in the summer
Habits
Females burrow into the ground about ½” wide and up to 10” deep, excavated soil can be disfiguring to a lawn.
Females generally will not sting unless handled or stepped on.
Males will buzz people but cannot sting.
