Ehrlich's Top 10 Tips for a Pest Free Spring

04 April, 2008

Homeowners can take simple steps to prevent pest problems in their homes. According to the pest specialists at Ehrlich Pest Control, spending some time on these ten items now will go a long way to keep pests at bay once the weather warms up.

1 Solve moisture problems -- cracked gutters, leaky faucets and standing water.

2 Seal cracks in foundation or siding with caulk, putty or fine steel wool.

3 Minimize outdoor lighting. Ehrlich recommends yellow lights to attract fewer insects.

4 Don't let paper bags and newspapers accumulate. Don't store them next to the refrigerator.

5 Keep trash and recyclables covered. Keep cans clean and off the ground with cement blocks.

6 Keep firewood, lumber and "clutter" away from your home to minimize hiding spots.

7 Make sure there is no spillage from your bird feeder.

8 Don't store food products on the floor.

9 Prune shrubs, vines and trees to minimize hiding places and moisture accumulation.

10 Check window screens and replace any that were damaged over the winter.
